Ahhh, the winter holiday school vacation. It’s a lovely time of year, full of precious memories and laughter ringing through the house…but sometimes, you really wonder just how their teacher gets through a full day with more than 30 of them. Since they’re home, they’re going to need something to do, and you can only turn off the TV so many times!
Here at Bulk Nation, we’ve got everything you need to keep the kiddos entertained (for at least a little while) with some healthy and festive holiday treats!
Happy Holidays Trail Mix
2 cups dry roasted unsalted peanuts or pumpkin seeds
1 cup of red and green colored chocolate gems
½ cup raisins
½ cup dried cranberries
½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup white chocolate chips
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Store at room temperature in an air-tight container. For extra holiday festiveness, put your mix in a mason jar and tie with a colored bow – it makes a perfect and super simple gift!
Granny’s Apple Pie Bites
2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon chopped hazelnuts
1 tablespoon chopped walnuts
½ teaspoon allspice
½ cup almond butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons honey
¼ cup unsweetened, dried cranberries
1 cup grated granny smith apple tossed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Stir together oats, cinnamon, flaxseed, salt, hazelnuts, walnuts, and allspice. Separately, stir almond butter, honey, and vanilla extract together. Mix with oat mixture until fully combined. Stir apples and dried cranberries with oat and nut butter mixture until fully combined. Using your hands or a tablespoon, form balls with the oat and apple mixture. Store in a fridge for up to four days.
Holly and Ivy Popcorn Balls
10 cups popcorn
3 tablespoons butter
3 cups mini marshmallows
Yellow food coloring
Blue food coloring
Red colored chocolate gems
Start with approximately 10 cups of popcorn, making sure you get out all of the un-popped kernels. Salt liberally. Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a medium sauce pan. Once the butter is melted, add 3 cups of mini marshmallows. Stir until the marshmallows are melted. Turn off the heat. Add a couple drops of yellow food coloring and mix until the marshmallow mixture is a bright yellow. Then add one drop of blue food coloring and stir. This will create the perfect “ivy” green color! Slowly pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Using a spoon, gently fold the marshmallow mixture in with the popcorn until the popcorn is mostly covered. Lay the mixture flat on a baking sheet. Drizzle a little bit of the remaining marshmallow mixture over the popcorn but do not mix it up. (The candy needs something to stick to!) Top with red colored chocolate gems and voila! The perfect holly and ivy popcorn mix for any Christmas movie night!
From all of us here at Bulk Nation, we wish you a very happy holiday season!
